An understanding of finances is essential for First Nations communities. Those that are fiscally responsible understand the need for management planning and can undertake long term planning and maintenance of financial systems. Pwi-Di-Goo-Zing Ne-Yaa-Zhing Advisory Services sees its roole in this area as transitional:

• providing intensive support and training in the initial stage
• building a community financial planning system that includes budgeting and forecasting; and
• evolving to support, once communities have become confident in financial matters

The initial stage will intensify the level of training and will allow and enhanced consultation by Advisory Services in areas such as systems and system maintenance.

Working together with First Nations communities, the Finance department is responsible for computerized bookkeeping and accounting; financial planning, development and reporting; assists in the preparation of applications and proposals; and other related duties as required. Monitoring of internal control systems, reviews and account analysis is carried out to ensure accuracy , and that the financial statements are fairly presented in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
